Want to eat a meal that stands for something? Colors restaurant opened in the East Village this weekend, offering 5 unique menus filled with foods from around the world. The restaurant strives to reflect its diverse work force in its cuisine, while creating a communal dining experience. Only serving local products from small and mid-sized farms, at least 50 percent of food comes from traceable sources.
A “worker cooperative,” Colors stands for “better working conditions, improved wages, racial equality, and career mobility in the restaurant industry.” The five menus are Earth, Land, Sea, Heaven, and Hell. Order from one, or try a little from each! Earth contains a root vegetable stew and a three grain salad, while Land is meatier, with lamb chops and cornish game hen. Sea is self-explanatory, with a calamari that sounds amazing, and Heaven couldn’t be anything else but desserts. Top your meal off with some cocktails from the Hell menu, maybe a Ginger Beerish, kelso nut brown lager with rum and fresh ginger.
Colors is located at 417 Laffayette Place in the East Village, nearby Astor Place.
