Back in the day

Have you seen the old picture of the Queens Family Courthouse? Now more currently the site of Moda– a project boasting over 40,000 SF of retail space for lease, 346 modern living apartments, and a 500 space parking garage. The property has a rich history. Before becoming a courthouse, the space was the central Library Building. It was designed with an Italian Renaissance style, complete with marble walls and floors, and classic details. The library outgrew the space, and then in 1970 became the courthouse with an added brick and stone facade.

The original facade still stands today as a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. Want to be a part of this historic landmark?  Call 212-213-6480 for leasing information.

Spiciest food found in Jamaica, Queens

6 04 2010

West African Pepper Shrimp (picture via Village Voice)

I have a knack for finding delicious spicy foods, but the Village Voice may have closed in on the spiciest in the city. “Putting others to shame,” the West African Pepper Shrimp at Maima’s in Jamaica, Queens is “mouth-searing, mind-bogglingly-hot.”  The shrimp are crunchy and topped with an orange-flavored sauce, but with a (big) kick. Maima’s is the only Liberian restaurant in NYC, and is located in a residential neighborhood near JFK airport.

Visit the eatery at 106-47 Guy Brewer Boulevard, and make sure to stop by space for lease 89-14 Parsons Boulevard to see the new development Moda.

Landmarking Jamaica, Queens

22 02 2010

The former Jamaica Savings Bank at 146-21 Jamaica Avenue, which soon may be a landmarked space.

Three buildings in Jamaica, Queens may achieve historical landmark status, preserving the architecture and cultural heritage of the area. The former Jamaica Savings Bank, the neo-Classical Queens Supreme Courthouse on Sutphin Boulevard, and the Gothic-Revival-style Grace Episcopal Church Memorial Hall will all be up for discussion.

If granted landmark status by the Landmark Preservation Commission, the buildings will be unable to be changed architecturally, which will protect the historical importance of the neighborhood.

The Queens Family Courthouse building at 89-14 Parsons Boulevard in Jamaica is already a historical spot, and is part of the latest project– MODA. The facade of the property will be kept in the unique building to contain 346 apartments and 45,000 square feet of retail. Ready to open your nail salon, restaurant, pharmacy or other use in this unique space? Call 212-213-6480 for leasing information.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Staples.

3 02 2010

Walking down Park Avenue South, I noticed that office superstore Staples is moving into the Besen Retail neighborhood. The property just added a new sign and is working on a fresh coat of paint at the corner of 24th street and Park. While the Flatiron/Murray Hill neighborhood could definitely use a place to get fresh paper, notebooks, and tabbed folders, I think Jamaica, Queens needs a new Staples location just as much. Luckily for them, a new project is in development– Moda. With 45,000 SF of retail space and 346 apartments in the heart of downtown Jamaica, 89-14 Parsons Boulevard is now for lease. Call 212-213-6480 for leasing information.

26 01 2010
