224 Atlantic Avenue LEASED (you can stop calling now)

27 10 2010

The former Cartridge World at 224 Atlantic Avenue has officially been leased to the good folks at Metro PCS.  The space is down the block from Trader Joe’s, and a soon to be Barney’s NYC Co-op, which basically means that there will be a ridiculous amount of foot traffic, all the time.

Although our For Lease signs are still up, they will be taken down very soon and  I can assure you that the space is in fact off the market.

Please stop calling.

Trader Joe’s Pops up in a New Location

12 07 2010

Our friends at NYCurbed.com tell us that Trader Joe’s just opened a brand new location in Chelsea, just minutes away from our Park Avenue Office!  Located at 675 6th Avenue, the 41,000 square-foot space will serve as a great solution for people who are fed up with the humdrum cafeteria lunch-line, and are looking for a fresh  do-it-yourself solution for the mid-day munchies. Trader Joe’s in-house brand is widely regarded as one of the best tasting and highest quality,  donning some of the most consumer friendly prices around.

Trader Joe’s on Broadway

No, it’s not a new musical. Grocery extraordinaire Trader Joe’s is expanding to another location– at 200 West 72nd Street on Broadway. The store was keeping the opening quiet, but now they are reporting that they should be ready for business in late September or early October. Looking for a job? The store says they will be hiring within a month or two before the shop opens. No information is available regarding the opening of an infamous Trader Joe’s wine shop at this location. The Upper West Side seems to be the hottest location to open a store right now. Need a space? The old Metro Theater, 2626 Broadway is now for lease! Call 212-213-6480 for leasing information.

Brooklyn Wine Exchange Moving In

23 11 2009

The Downtown Brooklyn location of Trader Joe's

I’m a regular at the Trader Joe’s Wine shop in Union Square. With my 50 cent wine tote bag in hand, I stock up my red and white collections for future parties and special occasions. While the lines are long, you can’t beat the prices. Upon visiting the Downtown Brooklyn Trader Joe’s near recently leased space 226 Atlantic Avenue, I was disappointed that the store did not come with its own wine shop. Owners of Carroll Gardens’ Smith & Vine decided to change that with the opening of “The Brooklyn Wine Exchange” right next door. While they might not be able to match Trader Joe’s prices, the wine experts behind Smith & Vine will should still impress us.

What to Bring to Thanksgiving Dinner

18 11 2009

Eleni's Thanksgiving-themed cookies

My mother always told me to bring something when I am a guest in someone else’s home. With that wise advice engrained in my brain, I always make an effort to find something delicious to take with me. Thanksgiving is approaching, which gives guests the perfect opportunity to bring a tasty treat for a host or hostess. I have found a few easy options, with no cooking required.

Cannolis

While they might not be the most traditional Thanksgiving dessert, Stuffed Artisan Cannolis in the Lower East Side has apple pie, pumpkin pie, and eggnog flavored Italian style cannolis. Other flavors include root beer float, peanut butter and jelly, and peaches and creme. A dozen Mini Cannolis is $18, or try one for yourself for $2.

Themed Cookies

Eleni’s cookie and cupcake shop, located at both the Chelsea Market and the Upper East Side, decorates cookies for every occasion, including Thanksgiving. Intricately decorated turkeys, scarecrows, and other harvest-themed cookies are available for the season. Eleni even makes a “Turkey Dinner” set, with cookies shaped like every item to complete the holiday meal. For future reference, the bakery  has sweets for “Oscar Season,” decorated with celebrity faces.

Wine

My usual go-to item to bring to a gathering, thanks to the Trader Joe’s Wine Shop. Not only is there a giant selection of delicious wines from around the world, but the prices are low. The New York Times suggests having both a red and a white at the table to please a variety of drinkers. They recommend trying a 2007 sauvignon blanc from BV Coastal Estates, but I recommend a 2007 pinot grigio “Bear’s Lair,” with notes of honey and apricot.

Pie

Nothing is better than finishing off a turkey dinner with a thick slice of pie. Be the pie hero at your dinner this year with one of these options. Just make sure to order early! Blue Smoke, a BBQ restaurant located just around the corner from Besen Retail on E 27th Street, boasts their famous Bourbon-Pecan pie. For a twist on the traditional apple pie, go for the Apple Galette, which is more tart-like, at Balthasar on 80 Spring Street.

Trader Joe’s Expanding to Chelsea

The new Trader Joe's location (picture via Property Shark)

Trader Joe’s gourmet grocery is bringing its long lines and Hawaiian shirts to another location in Manhattan. The store will occupy a whole block at 675 Sixth Avenue, which was once the home of Barnes & Noble. The 41,000 SF space will be filled to the brim with organic goods, but there is still no word on if a Trader Joe’s wine shop will be included. The chain already has a location in Union Square, Rego Park, Queens, and one nearby recently leased space 226 Atlantic Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn. A third Manhattan location is expected to open on the Upper West Side at Broaday and 72nd Street next year. I am hoping lines will dwindle with two extra locations, but I have a feeling I’ll be waiting with my organic roasted red pepper hummus in hand.
