Top 5 Reasons to Lease the Ex-Metro Theater

5 04 2010

The old Metro Theater sits at 2626 Broadway on the Upper West Side. The historical landmark is now for lease and would be perfect for your restaurant, fitness center, clothing store, or other retail use. Here’s why!

1. Gorgeous design: Besides the landmarked movie marquee, the property also includes art deco detailing, making it a one-of-a-kind space for your business.

2.  Urban Outfitters: The national retailer is moving directly across the street. That means guaranteed traffic in the neighborhood.

3. Fabulous food: The Metro Theater sits in neighborhood overflowing with delicious food. Nearby restaurants include Mama Mexico, Alouette, Picnic Market and Cafe and the Metro Diner.

4. Columbus Avenue Retail: The Upper West Side is exploding with new retailers like Sephora, Michael’s, TJ Maxx, and Whole Foods. You could be next!

5. Plans are approved: Plans are already approved for a 5,000 SF ground floor, a 5,000 SF 2nd floor, and a 5,000 SF selling lower level, saving you some hassle.

Urban Outfitters Takes UWS Again

16 03 2010

The growing Upper West Side will welcome another retailer, Urban Outfitters, who plans to open its second location at 2625 Broadway between 99th and 100th Streets. The two floor store includes 6,090 SF on the ground floor, and 8,708 SF on the lower level. UO originally planned to take the Metro Theater (2626 Broadway) across the street, but chose 2625 Broadway instead. According to “My Upper West” a spokesperson for the deal said that the retailer went for the space because it was not landmarked, giving the option of creativite freedom without restrictions. The store expects to open this summer.

The good news is the Metro Theater is still available for your retail use, AND will neighbor Urban Outfitters. Ready to move to a unique building in the UWS? Call 212-213-6480 for leasing information.

Trader Joe’s on Broadway

(picture via Westside Independent)

No, it’s not a new musical. Grocery extraordinaire Trader Joe’s is expanding to another location– at 200 West 72nd Street on Broadway. The store was keeping the opening quiet, but now they are reporting that they should be ready for business in late September or early October. Looking for a job? The store says they will be hiring within a month or two before the shop opens. No information is available regarding the opening of an infamous Trader Joe’s wine shop at this location. The Upper West Side seems to be the hottest location to open a store right now. Need a space? The old Metro Theater, 2626 Broadway is now for lease! Call 212-213-6480 for leasing information.

Burberry Spreads to UWS

25 02 2010

London-based company Burberry has plans to open a 3,000 square foot store on the Upper West Side, according to WWD. Like the new Sephora shop, Burberry is also moving to Columbus, at 160 Columbus Avenue, but is closer to the Lincoln Center at 67th Street. While we don’t know what type of Burberry shop the space will house, it could carry the Prosum, Brit, London lines, or a combination. The UWS is a popular destination for brands to expand right now, with a new Apple store, as well as an Uggs shop nearby. Executive Director of Besen Retail Matt Mager will most likely hold a celebration in honor of the new store, as it is one of his favorite clothing brands.

A Street Named for John Lennon?

16 10 2009

newjohnlennonThe Bronx named a street for Mother Teresa just a couple months ago, Run DMC got an intersection in Queens, and  the movie/book “Where the Wild Things Are” even got a street name temporarily. Could John Lennon be next? A long time Beatles fan, Toni Diffley is requesting that the northeast Corner of Central Park West and West 72nd Street be named “John Lennon Boulevard.” Diffley will appear in front of the community board to present a plethora of facts proving John Lennon deserves the honor because of his service to the city. “He did so much for New York City. Doesn’t he deserve a street named after him on the street he lived and was murdered on?” Diffley said. She hopes that the name change will occur before the 30th anniversary of Lennon’s death on December 8th, 2010. The possible John Lennon Boulevard will be on the Upper West Side, in the same neighborhood as featured space for lease 2626 Broadway.
